AFT Pennsylvania has endorsed Pam Iovino for state Senate District 37 in the April 2 special election in Western Pennsylvania.
“Iovino, a retired captain in the United States Navy and Assistant Secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs, will be a strong advocate for working people,” said AFTPA President Ted Kirsch. “After a long career as a public servant, Iovino’s experience gives her a deep understanding of what working families in the 37th District need in terms of jobs, education and healthcare.”
As Assistant Secretary, Iovino was the Department of Veterans Affairs’ lead advocate on Capitol Hill, fighting to provide veterans and their families with the benefits and services they deserved and needed.
“Pam will use that experience to fight for families in Allegheny and Washington counties,” Kirsch said. “She has pledge to strengthen collective bargaining rights, improve workers’ wages and invest in public education – making sure that our public schools are safe, teachers and staff are supported and students have access to modern resources.”
The Special Election is Tuesday, April 2.
