PHILADELPHIA—Responding to President Joe Biden's efforts to safeguard abortions, PFT President Jerry Jordan issued the following statement:
"In the wake of SCOTUS' reprehensible decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and in light of the PA Republicans' nefarious efforts to outlaw abortion in Pennsylvania (underway right now), I am grateful that President Biden is taking important steps today to safeguard a woman's right to abortion access. The President's executive order today, which includes access to medication for abortion among a host of other measures, demonstrates important leadership when we desperately need it.
"We watched in horror--expected, but shameful nonetheless--as the conservative majority Supreme Court overturned decades long access to women's healthcare. And since that time, Pennsylvania Republicans, as Republicans across the nation have done, have seized this moment as an opportunity to further inflict their cruel, callous agenda on Pennsylvanians.
"Right now, in the State Capitol, Senate Republicans are holding up a state budget that is more than a week overdue in a disgusting attempt to flex their power and deny women access to healthcare.
"President Biden's action today cannot fully reverse the damage done by the Supreme Court. The President's action cannot inject a moral compass into the Pennsylvania Republicans. However, his executive action is a welcome step forward, and a welcome sign to the American people that he will take necessary leadership on this critical issue."
