PFT PRESIDENT JERRY JORDAN ON THE SHOOTING DEATH OF BILAL HENRY

December 30, 2023

Following the shooting death of Mr. Bilal Henry, a staff member at Mayfair Elementary School, PFT President Jerry T. Jordan issued the following statement:

PHILADELPHIA--"I am heartsick by the callous murder of Mr. Bilal Henry, a beloved father, husband, and staff member at Mayfair Elementary School

"To know that Mr. Henry was gunned down answering the door at his own home, while his wife and children were present is just gut-wrenching. There are no words that could convey comfort during this time of sorrow, but on behalf of the PFT, I extend my deepest condolences to Mr. Henry's family, including his wife Sonya and their children, as well as to the entire Mayfair Elementary community. At Mayfair, 'Mr. B.' was beloved and had terrific relationships with students and staff. The depth of this loss is immeasurable.

"The scourge of gun violence is relentless and cruel. In this time of tragedy, my words of condolences ring hollow. It is well past time for Harrisburg and Washington to enact meaningful gun reform. Again, my heartfelt but insufficient thoughts and prayers are with Bilal Henry's family, the Mayfair community, and with all who knew and loved 'Mr. B.'"
